Fri Aug 27th. I got my cameras loaded up and spent a couple of hours taking pangolin pictures. Altho I did my darndest I could not get him to climb up the pole placed for his benefit. I herded him around in circles, I hung him on it, I did everything in my power, but only succeeded in getting him to curl up at the crucial moment. The thing was 37 ½” long of which 23 ½” was tail. When scared he rolled up into an affair which looked very much like a pineapple. The tip of his tail has a small stump file hook on it by which he can be suspended & which sought acts as a catch when rolled up by hooking into his scales.

Later I went hunting with Dr. Shattuck for about 2 hrs till lunch time. We – I mean he – shot 1 squirrel, and saw several monkeys, plantain-eaters, and hornbills – not very exciting. And as it has been a hot, muggy pepless day so we probably did not put as much effort into the game as we might.

In the afternoon I skinned the squirrel and cleaned his skull – tedious long job for my inexperienced hands. Still he looks better than the one I did at Ka Lango town. And in the evening I got out my ukelele & played soft music for the assembled multitude.
