Mon Aug 23rd. Still more rain – all day long. In the morning I took the game getter and collected some small weaver birds which nest in the thatch roofs as well as some “wax bills” small weaver finches with red faces & red tail-coverts which I have been wanted to get but couldn’t with the big gun. As fast as I got them Dr. Allen skinned them. About 1000 the sun broke thru for about 15 minutes giving me a chance to take a few more pictures of Daniel Walker & his female retinue as the former ones were poor. Soon however the rain returned and I went back to small bird shooting

Shattuck & Theiler showed up about noon in the rain & we welcomed them with hot soup & a good meal.

In the afternoon we sat around for a considerable length of time talking about our various doings for the past week that we have been split. As it was pouring most of the time we did not miss much. Later I packed everything and got all but my bedding ready to go on the morrow if porters come.-
