August 9th, Monday.

We got our first corcodile today (Crocodilus cataphractus). It was not such a very large one (10 ft. 4 in. in length). It was an old animal, a female. The only infection found in it the next day was in the blood, a Hemogregarine. We have saved tissues and specimens for study.

I had to tramp beyond Owens Grove in connection with our next move. As usual, I found the so-called Commissioner there had given me incorrect information. It is three days march from Owens Grove to Zanga town, not one, as he insisted it was several days ago. I was walking for eight and three quarters hours and badly blistered one of my heels. I shall change our route and go to a place called Kaka town first.
