July 26th.

This is the National Holiday, July 26th, like our Fourth of July. That is why I am still in Monrovia, as it was obvious that I could not offend by going away two days before it. The ceremonies are at 11 o’clock and in the evening there is a ball at eight. It is probable that after tomorrow I will be cut off from mail communication for about three or four months; we shall in all probability not leave Liberia (Monrovia) before some time in December for the mouth of the Congo.
I enclose the program of the National Holiday Ceremony. Have just returned to the house after the exercises.
