July 25th.

I have been looking over microscopically a large number of different plants today without finding anything of importance. One of course almost always has to do an enormous amount of “negative” work before finding anything worth while. We have started to examine the rats here for Leptospira ictohemorrhagiae on account of the yellow fever talk. We found one infected with Trypanosoma lewisii and that was the only positive result of the day. George and Harold started for the base camp this morning. I have to be in Monrovia tomorrow. So I shall start Tuesday -- that will be three or four days before the mail gets in or goes out. So there is no chance to answer letters. I still have had none dated since June 11th. The letters in this next mail may catch up with me but I probably won’t get any others for three months.
