Sun Oct 17th – The Sabbath. In the first place we got up later – breakfast at about 620. Then I shaved washed and brushed my teeth thereby accomplishing a lot. This was followed by some medical photo’s and then diary writing all in all an inspiring morning. Dr. Strong and Shattuck however accomplished much with a medical clinic all the morning. The best was a tubercular leprosy case. Hal busied himself eliminating a chop box and cussing Colbar for doing everything wrong today. He also go to his Diary.

In the afternoon Dr. Strong and Shattuck returned to their clinic and to the examination of tsetse flies which have been brought in while Hal and I have continued Diary writing until just now when Hal has decided to take a siesta. Later I got me out pad and pencil and drew a picture of Chekomma as we see it from Hals and my side of our dwelling. After that tedious job was finished I took up my camera and filmed a few odd bits of scenery which seemed presentable – Then I packed film etc, my trunk and took a bath before supper. After the meal we all went up to town in the moonlight and dashed the paramount Chief’s wife with tobacco and gin with hopes that porters would be forth coming in the morning. We also got hold of the two headmen and palavered with them – Then back to our house to get to bed early.
