Mon Sept 20th – We are going to leave Fri. Dr. Strong, Shattuck, Hal and I will go to the coast via tappi town while the rest will work north to the St Pauls and then down to Monrovia. So I started to get ready the clothes and extra chemicals I am going to send out. I opened up one Hypo for and gave it to Allen to fill and filled another with Extra Amidol and K Br. Which I want to keep.

Later in the AM a hunter brought in a baby Royal Antelope roughly 5” high and about 10” long an absolutely informational beast with big eyes and diminutive feet. <Drawing of hooves> This is about the size of his track. It was very lucky for us to get this. Hal was just going out hunting and as he was going along a bush trail he ran across this man with the animal and persuaded them to bring it to the camp. These animals are quire rare in collections so far as we know and have a range restricted to the Ivory coast – Liberia and Sierra Leone. When full grown they are said to be but 10” high and about 18” long.

After lunch I took a picture of most of the boys. Brewer was away and Sands the cook and Momo refused to join the party. Otherwise it was complete, then I went out for a short hunt with almost negative results. When I returned I found that a mail runner had arrived with our first news from home since July 27th. It was quite welcome but unfortunately we found that most of the mail was missing there being a cavity from July 3rd to Aug 15th. Most of the letters spoke about the news in the last letter or the one before that. However we do not sneeze and I did get 4 so I should not complain. The only letter Hal got from America who from a Russian friend in New York. And that lasted till supper. – While I was thus occupied a Black Duiker came in which Hal skinned out. After Supper I developed again – 200 ft etc. Hal kept me company.
