Fri Aug. 6th  Although showering when we got up the sun burst thru the clouds spasmodically and the rain soon ceased for good. I puttered around with my films for a while and loaded some plate holders. Later I went out to take some pictures of the camp which is more of a job than I anticipated due to the way the camp is spread out. I climbed stumps and walked logs in an almost vain attempt to find a place where I could see the whole establishment at once. But always some brush or stick would be in the way. While I was thus busied I saw a cuckoo which I suspect has a nest nearby so when I was thru I went in fruitless search of it. Although I excercised my best patience I could not get any sight of a nest.

After lunch I climbed a hill in back of camp and took some pictures from on top. A sort of birds eye view of things altho very distant. I then returned rolled up my dried movie films and waited for Harold to get thru repacking in preparation for  his trip to Monrovia to get take some stuff back, and get a few more supplies plus the cash for the trip. Then we went forth to battle with tin cans placed on ant hills. We have a range of sorts shooting at 75, 100 & 150 yards. I was really quite surprised that I could hit anything at all much less a foot square target at 150 yds with a new  gun. I suppose, tho, that it was beginners luck and I probably wont repeat. When we were thru shooting about 25 shots a piece we returned to camp and bathed. After supper I again developed – 200 ft of movies – 3 doz still pictures.
