We are very glad to be ashore and back in Monrovia. At six o’clock we started out to hunt for a vacant house to rent but found out from Captain Beard that Firestone had rented all the vacant houses in town and were expecting us to go to one of them. So here I am in the same house I came to on July 7th, just four months ago. The members of the other party, Allen, Theiler, Bequaert and Linder arrived here on November 6th - 8th in the order named and all well. They, like ourselves, had had a successful time. Dr. Allen has now some 163 mammals, and the botanical collection has grown to over 1300 specimens. I have been thrown as a necessity into state affairs here since my return. The loan with the United States sponsored by it but made by the National City Bank for Firestone -- the terms of it -- etc., all occupied my attention.

Mr. Cheek and George were arrested for assault on a chauffeur, which led to a demonstration against Americans here and America generally. The President has apologized and things are straightening out.
